[Check back next year.]
I’m really keen on the idea of playing seasonal games during the appropriate months, which gives me an excuse to work through Millennium Kitchen’s gameography. This wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago, but thanks to the work of fan translators and a few professional publishers, an examination of the Boku no Natsuyasumi series and Boku-adjacent games is within reach. What better way is there to experience the transience and wistfulness of summers past?
This August, as I prep for a new school year, I plan to finally watch Tim Roger’s video essay on the first Boku no Natsuyasumi, released for the PlayStation in 2000. Fortunately, Kaz Ayabe games have never been as accessible in English as they are now (and the list is only growing), much means I’ll be able to continue this end-of-summer tradition well into the future. Other games include:
Boku no Natsuyasumi 2: Umi no Bouken-hen (PlayStation 2)Attack of the Friday Monsters! (3DS)Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation – The Endless Seven-Day Journey (Switch)Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid (Switch)
