Summer Vacation

I’m really keen on the idea of playing seasonally appropriate games (one of the reasons I started S.E.E.S), which finally gives me an excuse to work through Millennium Kitchen’s gameography. This wouldn’t have been possible a few years ago, but thanks to the work of fan translators and a few professional publishers, an examination of the Boku no Natsuyasumi series and Boku-adjacent games is within reach. What better way is there to experience the transience and wistfulness summers past?

This August, as summer winds down and I begin prepping for the new school year, I plan to play the first Boku no Natsuyasumi released for the PlayStation in 2000. Fortunately, Kaz Ayabe games have never been this accessible in English (and the list is only growing), much means I will be able to continue this end-of-summer tradition well into the future. Those games include:

  • Boku no Natsuyasumi 2: Umi no Bouken-hen (PlayStation 2)
  • Attack of the Friday Monsters! (3DS)
  • Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation – The Endless Seven-Day Journey (Switch)
  • Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid (Switch)
